5 Tips For Beginner Yogis
By Alma Cuadra & Marisela Talamantes
Starting yoga is like starting a new relationship. At first, you may be nervous, excited and anxious. Remember, it’s not a competition; it’s a proven way to decrease stress, improve mental clarity and become more connected with yourself. With time and practice, yoga will become more than a simple hobby or another form of exercise. It will become part of your lifestyle, and your connection with your mind and body connection will strengthen.
“Yoga does not change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees.”
— B. K. S. Iyengar
Here are five tips for yogis just starting out from The Resort at Pedregal’s yoga instructors Alma Cuadra and Marisela Talamantes.
Breathing is the most important aspect of a yoga session. Inhale deeply and exhale slowly.
2. Respect yourself
Pay attention to how your body responds to each movement. Respect your body’s limits.
3. Be present
During a yoga session, be present. The past doesn’t exist and the future is unknown, so focus on the here and now.
4. Quiet your mind
By following steps one through three, you will remain in the moment and gain the full benefits of experiencing each posture.
5. Have fun
Relax and enjoy the learning process.
