A Very Special Wedding Story from The Resort at Pedregal’s Romance Planner

When you plan weddings for a living, you acquire some invaluable insights into the process over the years. That being said, there is still nothing quite like planning your own wedding—regardless of how much experience you might have. Recently, we sat down with The Resort at Pedregal’s very own wedding planner, Nubia Villa, to hear her story about planning her wedding in Cabo San Lucas and what she learned from the process.

“Last January, I would have never imagined getting married so soon. My partner and I had been together for five years, sharing a home with three dogs already, and in no rush to get married,” said Villa. “My parents and siblings had coordinated a vacation to Cabo, which was exciting for me, because they were all coming to visit at the same time. Little did I know then what was being planned without my knowledge.”

Villa explained that her partner proposed just two days before her family’s arrival, setting off a whirlwind of quick wedding planning and last-minute preparations.

“Special moments happen so fast, and we decided to seize this opportunity of having our families together in one spot. We planned to have an intimate wedding ceremony just ten days after being engaged—amounting to the craziest, happiest, most joyful week of my entire life!” said Villa.

For her, it was interesting to be on the other side, picturing herself as the bride when she had assisted so many brides before. Despite her usual advice and guidance, she found herself a little overwhelmed, but she was grateful for all the wedding industry contacts she had built over the years.

“Fortunately, as an experienced planner, I have plenty of knowledge on planning a wedding no matter the size of the group or the time constraints. Everything went smoothly and fell into place as I was able to quickly find the right venue, the right flowers, musicians—everything! I was even able to find my wedding gown in a local designer studio and I picked the very first gown I tried. That’s luck!”

The only stressful moment came when weather forced the couple to move their reception indoors, but Villa kept her calm, knowing that there are some factors that are beyond anybody’s control and it was best is to just let it go and be positive, taking the advice of onsite experts.

“I had to remind myself of a lesson I had learned over time—that the most important aspect of the wedding is the union, not the external factors. Sharing our love with the people we care about most in the world was all that mattered.”

The stunning ceremony was held at sunset with beautiful ocean views in the background and Villa’s parents, siblings and closest friends present.

When asked what she learned from the process, Villa remarked, “I definitely have a better understanding now of the intense emotions involved. I look forward to helping other brides achieve their dream wedding in the smoothest, most stress-free and happiest way possible!”

Villa was happy to share some of her top tips and trends with brides-to-be:

“Wedding trends are continuously changing. In the last few years, I have seen a tremendous amount of different styles color palettes and ideas, and the truth is that no wedding is the same as another. Now we are more focused on reflecting the unique essence and personality of the couple, resulting in an authentic and organic look every time. We use handcrafted artisanal pieces, antiques and shabby chic themes to provide guests with lifetime experiences, unique scenarios and remote venues.”

Ultra-modern décor and “bling bling,” as Villa calls it, has been replaced with comfy furniture, wood tables with no linen, soft fabrics and lace. The same has happened with flowers; instead of elaborate centerpieces, the trend is to look for more garden-style pieces and hanging décor, adding aromatic greenery such as eucalyptus, cactus and Sylvester flowers and herbs.

“I am so glad to be based in Cabo,” she said, “where we can combine these fresh ideas with the richness and tradition of local Mexican culture against a beautiful backdrop of desert and sea.”
